Feedback
Likely, you’ve occasionally wondered what exactly it is we do here at Outlandos Music (other than blog). The easy answer is that we’ve been plotting and scheming to remedy a lot of the stuff you hear me bitching and moaning about each week. Actually, the plotting and scheming was over ages ago… like most startups, we’ve been bogged down by production and various unplanned events that just go with the territory — the sort of stuff I like to call adventure. Now, at least, we have something to show for it. It’s not the whole picture but it’s an essential piece. And what we need from you is feedback.
So, as a personal favor to me, I’m asking each and every one of you to test drive our widget, located here:
It’s my hope that you’ll leave comments on this post about your experience. The owner of each comment will also be entered into a drawing and one person will win. Positive or negative, constructive is the only requirement. The prize is a good one, something you can’t get anywhere else…. You’ll have to trust me on this because I’m unable to say what it is. I’ll e-mail the winner next week.
Chances are though, you don’t care about some mystery prize. But you do care about music. If I’m lucky, this will be enough.
I can’t do this without you.

Kate,
“The Daily ‘Dos” — BRILLIANT. Older cats like me LIKE the old stuff, the heritage artists. As everybody ages, they hold on to the music of their past. The REAL music lovers like to be turned on to NEW stuff as well. However, most music sources seem to offer one OR the other. What you’ve done here is just great. But, you know all this already!
Cheers,
PC
This looks great. I don’t have the time to go foraging for new music to listen too, and I’m getting pretty worn out on the same stuff the local classic rock station plays. I don’t need to hear any more Phil Collins or Foreigner for one, two things. Sign me up! – Dave
Oh the plotting and scheming has piqued my interest entirely Kate! Chances are i care about music? You sure have me pegged. Contest aside, the daily two song widget is something i’ll be checking in on….really.. to discover the new stuff it’s just so much easier when you have all the help you can get….I hope your enthusiasm for music never ends…I’m guessing that’s a gimme.
Kate, As I said before, when you sent me a preview, I love The Daily ‘Dos! (Doh!) what a cool concept. I’m just wondering when it becomes daily, and I get to hear a new one.

Nice! Looks great, works great. Just a couple weensy questions: is there a way for the volume on the widget to pop up and stay up while moused-over? That’s the way I’m used to volumes working, anyhow. Also, in the “Powered By” footer, what would you think about inserting a couple words there to bookend “the daily dos” header — for moments when the Intro language is covered up? E.g. “New song discovery by Outlandos Music.” How will people know they can grab the widget for their sites/Facebook pages? And last but not least, when does this wonder tool go live? I want it!
I love this — so proud of you Kate! I’ve played with this widget for about 20 minutes now trying to find something to be critical about, but I can’t, it just rules. (Other than the “how can i get it to live eternally on my desktop, blog, and facebook page” question.)
I like how it behaves like Windows Media Player, but looks “mac-ier”.
And my favorite part is the archives. Love the imaging — your intro is sexy, hip, informative, and just the right length. Impeccable song choices & combos. This little gadget will change the world.
OK Kate,
I finally got it. I did it, I took the widget out for a spin. I thought it was brilliant!
It has taken me a few weeks to get to it. Here is why. I was confused about the connection between the SXSW and the Dos’. What I realized was that YOU go and spend the 650 plus (room/food, etc.) and scout out all the good stuff and then present the best of what you find to my slack/broke ass in the form of blogs with great links and the Daily Dos’. Yea!!! At first I just played the first 2 songs and that was it. Good start, but left me with nothing to say (except that the D’wells are F’awsome and of course a good pairing with Petty). But I knew you knew that much and did not need my help there. So i put the Outlandos page on bookmarks bar knowing that more exploring was needed. So I did. Then, I opened it again and saw you referenced ‘the Mac’ on the Petty page and being a Mac owner, clicked the word linked in blue. This is where my understanding of the widget changed completely. I was taken to a page relating to the music of Fleetwood Mac. (well, duh? you say) Then I went back and started clicking on other things and more pages came up that helped me get more interested, not only in the new music but in the older stuff too! The Best Part was I was able to flip through all these windows WHILE THE MUSIC CONTINUED TO PLAY.
I am not sure why this amazed me but it did. I do not think you can do that on a myspace page. I am pretty sure the music stops when you go to a new link on the same band’s page.
Also, I liked the buttons connecting you to a variety of places to purchase the music. You should tell people to try your widget and PUSH ALL THE BUTTONS!!!! That is where the fun is, well, and hearing great music. I am all for your approach here. A little intro and then a ‘new’ artitst/band and then a more well established or just older tunesmith second. The “share” button is also a really cool idea. I do not know what it means to embed something and that will need a little ‘splaining to me. So what happens when one uses the email share tab? It would be great if you could send a song (or two!!). I tried to send something to myself but have not yet received anything.
Anyway, one of the things that I like about my friends cable package is the music channels. The screen will show facts and info about what is being played at the moment. The draw back is that you get a tiny snippet. If you want to know more you have to go to a different room and … get on the computer. What if that was where you started from? The DOSe. Also, it is organized by GENRE and my life is not set by a dedicated genre. Your service organizes itself by thoughtful handpicking across genres and genrational gaps.
Great job Kate!

I’m in love… I’m a believer.
